Glucosamine and chondroitin

Chien et chat

Glucosamine and chondroitin are often mentioned when it comes to discussions about arthritis. Here are some considerations when it comes to supplementing your pet.

First and foremost, it is important to understand that these molecules are used as building blocks for cartilage repair in the joints, not to decrease discomfort.

The type that you give is very important: to benefit, an animal needs glucosamine HCl and chondrotin SO4. The opposite (glucosamine SO4 and chondroitin HCl) can be found on the shelves and is cheaper, but useless. Ensure that the source of chondroitin in your chosen supplement is bovine and not marine (shark fin). The quality is excellent, and we are not putting shark populations in any more danger.

It is impossible, no matter the company, to add enough of these substances into a pet food to be clinically effective; an external supplement is necessary.
